Metallic Powders

Aluminum powder should be added at a rate of 8% of total vehicle weight, while gold powder should be at least 20%. The vehicle and powder should be weighed separately and mixed by preparing a slurry or paste utilizing powder and a thinner compatible to the clear base. Once powder is completely wet, begin stirring in the clear base. Continue adding and mixing until a uniform blend is achieved. Improper mixing techniques will result in poor adhesion and/or loose dry particles. Although compatible with many plastics, care must be taken when using bronze powders with Acetyl, Vinyl and Heat Stabilized nylon as the zinc component may unzip the polymer. Loading should be in the 1% to 8% range. Lower range will give translucent effects while higher rates are for opaque effects. All powders will work well in operating temperatures up to 200° F. For temperature ranges in the 200° F to 500° F range, Cres-Lite™ Resisto grades should be used. All aluminums can be used in the 200° F to 500° F ranges.
